What Snapkey sends, and what it never does.

Snapkey is built so your screenshots stay yours. This page lists everything the app and this site share, in plain terms.

Your screenshots stay on your Mac

A capture goes straight to your clipboard, with a temporary copy on your own Mac that is cleared the next time Snapkey starts. Screenshots are never uploaded. Snapkey has no server that could receive them.

Screen Recording is the one permission Snapkey asks for, because macOS requires it of any screenshot app. It is only used at the moment you tap your capture key.

Anonymous usage counts

From version 1.2, Snapkey sends one small report a day so we can see how it is used. It contains the number of captures, batch adds and re-shoots since the last report, the app version, the macOS version, and a random install number created on your Mac that only tells one copy of Snapkey from another.

It does not contain screenshots, anything about what is on your screen, file names, your name, your email, or anything else that identifies you. The report reaches our database provider, Supabase, from your internet address like any web request, and we do not save that address with the counts.

Update check

Once a day Snapkey asks GitHub, where the app is hosted, for the latest version number. Nothing about you or your usage is included.

Turning it off

Click the Snapkey icon in your menu bar. Untick Share Anonymous Usage Stats to stop the daily report, and untick Check for Updates Automatically to stop the update check. Snapkey works the same with both off, and then makes no connections at all.

This website

The Snapkey page uses Google Analytics to count visits, as the rest of bravepeople.co does. When a Download button is clicked we also record which button it was, with nothing about the visitor.
